Me Pez is currently being used for research.

Originally, ME PEZ dealt in the exchange of pez, one of the first items bought, sold and traded over the early Internet. In fact, some people (not just 'pez-heads') believe that pez significantly contributed to ebay's initial popularity. By the way, if you're not familiar with the term, 'pez' is a candy sold with its own candy holder. Pez was meant to be a cigarette substitute; the included candy holder was designed to look like a cigarette lighter. Over the years, the pez candy holder evolved into something like a toy with a cartoon-character head. Early pez was produced in limited quantities - making certain versions of pez rare. Since people tend to value rare items, pez became a tradable item often exchanged for large amounts of money depending on rarity. After several years, the 'ME PEZ' site itself was sold. The buyer intended to use the site for the exchange of pez. But before the buyer could use the site, pez lost its glitter - at least to this buyer. According to the prior owner, Pez began to be produced in ever larger quantities. Even formerly-rare pez began to be reproduced in large volumes. Meanwhile new styles of pez came out at an unprecedented rate. So many new versions of pez were produced that the prior owner, an avid pez collector, couldn't keep up. In short, to the site's former owner, pez lost its rarity and its value. And with that, the site itself, MEPEZ.COM, also lost its value.

And yet, the former owner could not just sell the MEPEZ site to a large corporation at a "bargain basement" price. The former owner sought to complain about the situatuon described above. The owner also wanted to explain to pez visitors why the site no longer dealt in pez. So the site was offered only to buyers who agreed to include the above 'editorial' in some form.

Meanwhile we, the current owners of ME PEZ, were looking for a site with some historic significance. Our aim was to create a site dedicated to research and experimentation. The site was designed to push the envelope - to do what hasn't been done. At the same time, we wanted a site grounded in what has been done. To symbolize this, we thought it best to use a site with some history. And so with that, ME PEZ was born again - this time as a site dedicated to research and experimentation.
